Cyber criminals have wasted no time in using Absa\u2019s new logo<\/strong><\/a> to target the bank\u2019s customers in email scams.<\/p>\n

In a phishing email sent to South Africans, the criminals are trying to capitalise on Absa\u2019s rebranding to catch unsuspecting users.<\/p>\n

The email – which purports to come from Absa CEO Maria Ramos, but comes from the email \u201cgeien0080smtp@nokwi.co.za\u201d – informs victims that \u201ctoday marks a very significant day in the Absa journey\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this change in name, we have the extraordinary opportunity to take the best of what we have built, and move ahead with a new purpose: to bring your possibility to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The email then punted Absa\u2019s slogan, saying \u201cWe are also launching a new, fresh and vibrant Absa logo and identity that reflects our commitment to you, our customers\u201d.<\/p>\n

Users are then encouraged to click on their \u201cNew Absa eStatements\u201d in PDF format, which is actually an HTML file that takes users to a phishing attack website.<\/p>\n
