{"id":271075,"date":"2018-08-07T10:45:09","date_gmt":"2018-08-07T08:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=271075"},"modified":"2018-08-07T10:46:41","modified_gmt":"2018-08-07T08:46:41","slug":"samsung-mass-producing-4tb-4-bit-qlc-solid-state-drives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/271075-samsung-mass-producing-4tb-4-bit-qlc-solid-state-drives.html","title":{"rendered":"Samsung mass producing 4TB 4-bit QLC solid-state drives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung has started mass producing the industry&#8217;s first 4TB SSD based on 4-bit quad-level cell (QLC) technology.<\/p>\n<p>With its new 1 terabit 4-bit V-NAND chip, Samsung said it will also be able to efficiently produce a 128GB memory card for smartphones which will lead the charge toward higher capacities.<\/p>\n<p>The company said that as data stored within a memory cell increases from three bits to four, the chip capacity per unit area would typically rise and the electrical charge &#8211; which is used to determine information from a sensor &#8211; would decrease by as much as 50%.<\/p>\n<p>This makes it considerably more difficult to maintain a device\u2019s desired performance and speed.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung said its\u00a04-bit 4TB QLC SSD maintains the same performance levels as a 3-bit SSD.
