{"id":271241,"date":"2018-08-08T09:11:30","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T07:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=271241"},"modified":"2018-08-08T09:12:48","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T07:12:48","slug":"iphones-do-not-listen-in-on-users-apple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/271241-iphones-do-not-listen-in-on-users-apple.html","title":{"rendered":"iPhones do not listen in on users &#8211; Apple"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple has responded to questions from the House Energy and Commerce Committee in the US, stating that\u00a0iPhones do not listen to users without consent, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-apple-privacy\/apple-tells-lawmakers-iphones-are-not-listening-in-on-consumers-idUSKBN1KT04I\">Reuters reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This followed congressional hearings into Facebook&#8217;s privacy practices, after news emerged that its APIs had been exploited to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/255175-facebook-contacting-87-million-users-over-cambridge-analytica-leak.html\">harvest personal data<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from users.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook disclosed that 96,121 people in South Africa were affected by one such instance of data being harvested by an app called &#8220;YourDigitalLife&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, US lawmakers\u00a0wrote to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google founder Larry Page in July 2018 regarding concerns about smartphones collecting &#8220;non-triggered&#8221; audio data from conversations.<\/p>\n<p>Apple stated that\u00a0iPhones do not record audio while they are listening for audio commands to wake Siri up.
