{"id":271735,"date":"2018-08-13T10:11:05","date_gmt":"2018-08-13T08:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=271735"},"modified":"2018-08-13T10:12:14","modified_gmt":"2018-08-13T08:12:14","slug":"tesla-to-release-vehicle-security-source-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/271735-tesla-to-release-vehicle-security-source-code.html","title":{"rendered":"Tesla to release vehicle security source code"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla CEO Elon Musk has voiced his intention to release the source code for Tesla&#8217;s car security software in an effort to improve the security of future self-driving cars.<\/p>\n<p>Following a Q&amp;A session at the DEFCON hacking conference, Musk tweeted that he planned to open-source the carmaker&#8217;s security software.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the software would be important for improving the safety of future vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Tesla open-sourced the buildroot material used to build the system image on its Autopilot platform in addition to the code for the Nvidia-based infotainment systems in the Model S and Model X.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer has not released the source code for its Autopilot self-driving software or the Nvidia applications it runs on its infotainment system.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Great Q&amp;A <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/defcon?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@defcon<\/a> last night.
