{"id":277329,"date":"2018-09-26T16:16:35","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T14:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=277329"},"modified":"2018-09-26T16:18:22","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T14:18:22","slug":"dstv-ending-its-mobile-tv-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/277329-dstv-ending-its-mobile-tv-service.html","title":{"rendered":"DStv ending its Mobile TV service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MultiChoice has announced that its DStv Mobile service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dstv.com\/en-za\/news\/dstv-mobile-service-coming-to-an-end-20180919?_ga=2.192250990.536605260.1537970267-892487640.1515915328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>will end<\/strong><\/a> on\u00a031 October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>DStv Mobile TV launched in 2010 and used\u00a0DVB-H technology, allowing users to access DStv on their phone, laptop, or tablet via a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/selfservice.dstv.com\/devices\/mobile-devices\/drifta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Drifta mobile decoder<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The decoder received a DVB-H signal and converted it into a Wi-Fi signal for smart devices to access.<\/p>\n<p>The service was R49 per month. DStv Premium customers received one Mobile subscription for free, with additional subscriptions charged at R49 per month each.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the last few years, technology has evolved as broadband access continues to grow. It\u2019s not feasible to continue to maintain a separate land-based, dedicated network for this service alone, when an even better service can be offered to our customers on DStv Now via the Internet and Wi-Fi,&#8221; said MultiChoice.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice told customers who currently have a Mobile subscription that it has already started to switch off certain transmitters. This will impact reception for certain users.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, users will not be charged their subscription fee from 1 September 2018.
