The way it works: one-half of a couple goes to savemyass.com, which bills itself as a flower delivery service and relationship insurance policy.<\/p>\n
That person, usually a man, selects flowers in the basic to premium price ranges, or between 30 and 80 dollars (20-50 euros) a bouquet; and sets up a delivery schedule, often to cover themselves for an entire year, Al Lieb, who founded the website with his business partner, James Hong, told AFP.<\/p>\n
"Some of the dates are specific events like Valentine's Day and birthdays and anniversaries. But we also encourage 'just because' deliveries because they're unexpected and really work great," said Lieb.<\/p>\n
If Valentine's Day marks a first foray into flower deliveries to a new love-interest, rest assured: there's no commitment to keep up the bouquet shipments or the relationship.<\/p>\n
"You can manage your delivery schedule any way you want. You can change orders, add or delete, upgrade, cancel or move them. There's no commitment," said Lieb.<\/p>\n
"When people do cancel, we ask them why they are canceling. Half the time, it's because they've broken up with the person — because once you start the service and the person starts receiving flowers, it's kind of hard to cancel unless you break up."<\/p>\n
Savemyass has had no complaints from recipients of their bouquets, even if they don't come directly from the sender whose name is on the card.<\/p>\n
"When we began the service, we thought that we would have to be really sneaky about deliveries and make sure the recipients didn't know where the flowers were coming from. But it turns out that the vast majority of people love getting flowers no matter how they come," Lieb said.<\/p>\n
Lieb and Hong are looking into international expansion of the service, which currently covers only the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n
"We're looking at Europe at the moment, but before we do anything, we have to put a lot of thought into how to translate the name," Lieb said.<\/p>\n
