{"id":293274,"date":"2019-01-23T17:14:57","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T15:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=293274"},"modified":"2019-01-23T17:16:16","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T15:16:16","slug":"pc-users-are-not-updating-their-apps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/293274-pc-users-are-not-updating-their-apps.html","title":{"rendered":"PC users are not updating their apps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Antivirus company Avast has released its <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.avast.com\/pc-report-2019-shows-users-fail-to-update-avast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>2019 PC report<\/strong><\/a>, which shows that outdated software is common among PC users.<\/p>\n<p>Data from over 163 million devices showed that 15% of Windows 7 users are still running the initial, unsupported RTM release from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, 13% of all Windows 10 users aren&#8217;t running the latest version &#8211; instead running iterations such as Windows 10&#8217;s RTM release, or the Creators Update.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these versions are not supported by Microsoft, meaning that these computers are at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The report also showed that 15% of Microsoft Office users are still using Office 2007 &#8211; another piece of software that is no longer supported by Microsoft.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Apps are the most affected<\/h3>\n<p>The trend is even worse outside of Microsoft&#8217;s core software.<\/p>\n<p>According to Avast, 55% of all installed apps are not the latest versions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While it might be okay to run older versions of some apps, crucial ones like browsers and email clients should always be updated to avoid potential security issues,&#8221; said Avast.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Another good example is VLC Player.
