{"id":301,"date":"2007-06-16T18:46:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-16T16:46:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-06-06T09:33:46","modified_gmt":"2011-06-06T07:33:46","slug":"knott-craig-to-step-down-as-vodacom-ce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/301-knott-craig-to-step-down-as-vodacom-ce.html","title":{"rendered":"Knott-Craig to step down as Vodacom CE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Alan Knott-Craig wants to step down as Vodacom Group CEO and intimates that he would like the company\u2019s shareholders, the UK\u2019s Vodafone and SA fixed-line operator Telkom, to give him the go-ahead to leave before his contract expires in 2009. \u201cThere has to be life beyond Vodacom,\u201d he told the Financial Mail in an interview this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Knott-Craig, who has suffered a number of heart attacks in the past few years, says he believes that Vodacom has a capable management team that can keep the group on its growth trajectory. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">\u201cWe have strong first- and second-tier management in this company,\u201d he says. \u201cWhether I\u2019m here or not, it doesn\u2019t matter a damn. The company is in good shape to run without me. It\u2019s just a matter of shareholders saying it\u2019s time you take a break and it would be really nice to take a break.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Knott-Craig, who is Vodacom\u2019s founding CEO, is credited with building the cellphone group from nothing into an enterprise worth well over R100bn and with 30,2m subscribers in five African countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">This week, the group again reported strong annual financial results, with operating profit up 22,5% to R10,9bn on the back of a 20,9% rise in revenue to R41,1bn.
