{"id":301516,"date":"2019-04-06T07:01:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T05:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=301516"},"modified":"2019-04-06T07:02:42","modified_gmt":"2019-04-06T05:02:42","slug":"windows-7-is-finally-dying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/301516-windows-7-is-finally-dying.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows 7 is finally dying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At long last, Windows 7 users are beginning to drop the operating system in favour of newer versions.<\/p>\n<p>This trend is reflected in the latest data from <a href=\"https:\/\/netmarketshare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>NetMarketShare<\/strong><\/a>, which shows that the adoption of Windows 10 continues to increase as more Windows 7 users heed Microsoft&#8217;s warning regarding the operating system&#8217;s impending loss of support.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 first overtook Windows 7 in terms of market share in December 2018, despite its release over three years earlier in June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>This shows the extremely slow uptake of the software by Windows users, which is especially dismal compared to the rapid adoption of new software versions by Mac and iOS users.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 7 has now finally started to lose larger chunks of market share, however,\u00a0making way for the mass adoption of Windows 10.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Market share<\/h3>\n<p>Windows 7 adoption is at its lowest point ever recorded on NetMarketShare and the ageing operating system finally looks to be going the way of Windows 8.1 and XP.<\/p>\n<p>A slight resurgence in Windows 7 adoption near the end of the year pointed towards the OS sticking out the competition for a bit longer, but the adoption has since dropped off steeply to a point where recovery is unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>Older Windows operating systems such as Windows 8.1 and XP remain at around 4% and 2% market share respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The market share of the four most popular Windows operating systems over the last six months is shown in the table below.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Windows-7-Home-Premium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-133422\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Windows-7-Home-Premium-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 7 Home Premium\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Windows-7-Home-Premium-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Windows-7-Home-Premium-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Windows-7-Home-Premium.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"mybb_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"width: 100%;\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\">\n<thead>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #003366;
