IF YOU DOUBTED that competitive computer gaming was a sport, you need only look at the equipment available for serious gamers to set those doubts at rest. <\/p>\n

One piece of equipment that I got to play with is the Logitech G9 Laser mouse (Logitech G9 Laser mouse image here<\/a>), a desktop rodent specially designed for fussy gamers. Here's a mouse with a set of interchangeable weights, allowing you to ensure that the mouse has just the right amount of heft for maximum accuracy in the heat of battle. <\/p>\n

Personally, I don't quite understand the need for that, but I'd never quibble with a cricketer about the weight of his bat or a golfer over the weight of his driver, so there must be a demand for this level of customisation. It also has two separate outer cases, so it will be just the right fit for your hand.<\/p>\n

What I really liked was the little button on top of the mouse allowing you to change its sensitivity. Need to cover maximum screen distance in a single sweep? Just dial it up. Want to have awesome accuracy? Simply turn it down. Even for a non-gamer that's really useful.<\/p>\n

One other feature I really liked was its dual function scroll wheel. Logitech has been using a special system for its scroll wheel for a while. You click down on the wheel and it goes into freewheeling mode, allowing you to scroll through large documents at will. In the G9 it's done slightly differently: you have to flip the mouse over and change the function using a button on the bottom. That may seem odd – except that if you're in the heat of a contest you don't want to be switching functions by mistake.<\/p>\n

The cord of the mouse is even specially designed so that it doesn't get tangled up. All in all this is a great mouse for people with specific needs. I'm not sure I'm quite that picky, but there are enough people out there for this to be worth a second look. <\/p>\n
