{"id":30760,"date":"2011-08-03T09:05:22","date_gmt":"2011-08-03T07:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=30760"},"modified":"2011-08-03T18:09:54","modified_gmt":"2011-08-03T16:09:54","slug":"sms-porn-ad-causes-a-stir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/30760-sms-porn-ad-causes-a-stir.html","title":{"rendered":"SMS porn ad causes a stir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"Advertising Standards Authority\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/306365-ASA-Advertising-Standards-Authority\">Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA)<\/a> has ruled on a recent complaint from a consumer which said that e.tv broadcast an SMS porn advertisement from Itouch South Africa at an inappropriate time.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, the commercial aired at 00h03 during the movie \u201cAnother Woman\u201d and features, amongst other things, audible moaning.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the complaint is that the advertisement is offensive and inappropriately placed, the ASA said.<\/p>\n<p>It also mentioned that the complainant took issue with the fact that the ad was flighted on Women\u2019s Day and said that such a commercial shows blatant exploitation of the female body.<\/p>\n<p>Itouch South Africa, the respondent, submitted to the ASA that the commercial aired after midnight during a film rated 16+ SN and that it is in line with e.tv\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>The ASA noted that they had considered several complaints of this nature before and said, \u201cone overriding principle has always been that advertising of adult content or material suitable for adults should only be broadcast during times and programming where they are not likely to offend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, in this case the ASA felt that Itouch\u2019s argument that the commercial was being flighted during a movie with a 16+ age restriction didn\u2019t hold water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA quick online search about the movie indicates that it is about a woman facing a mid-life crisis who rents an apartment next to a psychiatrist\u2019s office to write a book, only to become drawn to the plight of a pregnant woman seeking that doctor\u2019s help.
