{"id":318049,"date":"2019-08-29T07:41:46","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T05:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=318049"},"modified":"2019-08-29T07:43:12","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T05:43:12","slug":"android-app-with-100-million-users-spread-malware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/318049-android-app-with-100-million-users-spread-malware.html","title":{"rendered":"Android app with 100 million users spread malware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google has pulled the popular CamScanner app from its Play Store after it was discovered that it was spreading malware.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/securelist.com\/dropper-in-google-play\/92496\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaspersky discovered<\/a><\/strong> that the app &#8211; which was installed more than 100 million times &#8211; contained an advertising library with a malicious dropper component.<\/p>\n<p>The component was detected as &#8220;Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n&#8221; and was designed to download and launch a payload from malicious servers.<\/p>\n<p>CamScanner was a popular app among Android users which allowed them to scan documents with their smartphone camera and save the content to a PDF document.<\/p>\n<p>The app had 1.8 million reviews, most of which were positive.
