{"id":320027,"date":"2019-09-14T15:32:57","date_gmt":"2019-09-14T13:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=320027"},"modified":"2019-09-14T15:36:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-14T13:36:10","slug":"how-to-use-the-best-new-features-in-android-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/320027-how-to-use-the-best-new-features-in-android-10.html","title":{"rendered":"How to use the best new features in Android 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Android 10, the latest version of Google&#8217;s popular mobile operating system, offers some impressive new features that you should consider using.<\/p>\n<p>It has already begun rolling out to Google&#8217;s Pixel smartphones, and Google is in discussions with other smartphone makers to upgrade their current and new devices to Android 10.<\/p>\n<p>The operating system will also support new technologies such as 5G and foldable smartphones, and includes over 50 privacy and security changes.<\/p>\n<p>Android 10 is also available in beta versions for selected devices, and is expected to roll out to many popular handsets by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>We have outlined how to activate and use some of the best features on Android 10 below.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Dark mode<\/h3>\n<p>Dark mode has become a popular feature due to the various <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/science\/292712-the-benefits-of-dark-mode.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>benefits<\/strong><\/a> it offers users.<\/p>\n<p>These include reduced eye fatigue, reduced power consumption, and better functionality in poor light.<\/p>\n<p>Android has followed the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/300342-chrome-74-beta-includes-dark-mode-support-for-windows.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/318225-microsoft-launches-dark-mode-for-office.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Microsoft Office<\/strong><\/a> by offering a system-wide dark mode on its latest Android 10 operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Activating this mode is very simple:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Display<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Toggle <strong>Dark theme<\/strong> on<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Gesture controls<\/h3>\n<p>Gesture controls offer an entirely different control scheme to the usual three buttons that are used for navigation at the bottom of your screen.<\/p>\n<p>Activate this setting by navigating to Settings &gt; System &gt; Gesture &gt; System Navigation &gt; Gesture Navigation.<\/p>\n<p>Once activated, users can use various gesture controls such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Swipe up on the navigation bar &#8211; <strong>Return to home screen<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Swipe inwards from the side of the display &#8211; <strong>Go back<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Swipe up to the middle of the screen &#8211; <strong>Launch app switcher<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Swipe up from bottom of screen &#8211; <strong>Open app drawer<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Swipe left or right at bottom of screen &#8211;
