{"id":320265,"date":"2019-09-17T08:38:23","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T06:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=320265"},"modified":"2019-09-17T08:39:04","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T06:39:04","slug":"ispa-launches-fellowship-programme-for-it-professionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/320265-ispa-launches-fellowship-programme-for-it-professionals.html","title":{"rendered":"ISPA launches Fellowship Programme for IT professionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Internet Service Providers\u2019 Association (ISPA) announced that it has introduced a<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ispa.org.za\/ispa-fellowship-program\/\">Fellowship Programme<\/a><\/strong> with the aim of improving South Africa\u2019s ICT skills base.<\/p>\n<p>ISPA chair Andr\u00e9 van der Walt said that emigrating industry professionals and the current ICT skills gap in South Africa threaten the country\u2019s participation in the fourth industrial revolution.<\/p>\n<p>ISPA has been involved in several of South Africa\u2019s Internet industry-related developments. It founded the country&#8217;s first Internet exchange point (INX-ZA) in Johannesburg in 1996 and has been running an IT skills training programme for teachers since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>According to Van der Walt, both experienced independent Internet professionals and newcomers to the ICT industry are welcome to join the programme. He added that membership access is not limited to those living within South Africa\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone in the world can apply to become an ISPA Fellow, which means that skilled South Africans living elsewhere can potentially play a helpful role with regards to the skills base of their home country,\u201d van der Walt said.<\/p>\n<p>ISPA describes the benefits of becoming a fellow as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Association with a credible and recognised Internet industry body<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to network and interact with ISPA members<\/li>\n<li>Ability to contribute to ISPA\u2019s submissions on Internet policy<\/li>\n<li>Access to the ISPA document library<\/li>\n<li>Access to most ISPA mailing lists available to ISPA members<\/li>\n<li>Participation in ISPA events, activities and workshops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications for membership to the Fellowship Programme are reviewed on a monthly basis. An annual membership fee of R1,200.00 (excl. VAT) is applicable.
