{"id":320939,"date":"2019-09-23T07:45:15","date_gmt":"2019-09-23T05:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=320939"},"modified":"2019-09-23T08:16:43","modified_gmt":"2019-09-23T06:16:43","slug":"official-8k-tv-specification-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/320939-official-8k-tv-specification-unveiled.html","title":{"rendered":"Official 8K TV specification unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cta.tech\/News\/Press-Releases\/2019\/September\/CTA-Launches-Industry-Led-8K-Ultra-HD-Display-Defi.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>released<\/strong><\/a> the official specification for 8K UHD TVs.<\/p>\n<p>Included with the specification is a logo which will signify whether a TV meets the requirements for official certification or not, making it easier for consumers to know whether they are buying a legitimate 8K display.<\/p>\n<p>The CTA said the 8K Ultra HD logo license and certification agreement will be available in the coming weeks, and the logo may be used starting from 1 January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Displays must meet the following requirements to be classified as &#8220;8K&#8221; under the new specifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Display resolution &#8211; <\/strong>At least 33 million active pixels, minimum resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 in a 16:9 aspect ratio.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digtal inputs &#8211; <\/strong>One or more HDMI slots supporting 8K resolution, a bit depth of 10 bits, frame rates of 24, 30, and 60 frames per second, and HDR transfer functions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Up-conversion &#8211; <\/strong>Capability to upscale lower resolutions to 8K UHD.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bit depth &#8211; <\/strong>Capability to receive 10-bit 8K images and render images which are responsive to changes to any of the 10 bits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis 8K Ultra HD definition is the product of our Video Division Board\u2019s dedication and hard work,&#8221;
