{"id":322240,"date":"2019-10-06T15:32:49","date_gmt":"2019-10-06T13:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=322240"},"modified":"2019-10-06T15:33:46","modified_gmt":"2019-10-06T13:33:46","slug":"windows-10-is-killing-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/322240-windows-10-is-killing-windows-7.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 is killing Windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 continues to increase its market share as users upgrade from Windows 7 to Microsoft&#8217;s latest desktop operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/netmarketshare.com\/operating-system-market-share.aspx?options=%7B%22filter%22%3A%7B%22%24and%22%3A%5B%7B%22deviceType%22%3A%7B%22%24in%22%3A%5B%22Desktop%2Flaptop%22%5D%7D%7D%5D%7D%2C%22dateLabel%22%3A%22Trend%22%2C%22attributes%22%3A%22share%22%2C%22group%22%3A%22platformVersion%22%2C%22sort%22%3A%7B%22share%22%3A-1%7D%2C%22id%22%3A%22platformsDesktopVersions%22%2C%22dateInterval%22%3A%22Monthly%22%2C%22dateStart%22%3A%222018-10%22%2C%22dateEnd%22%3A%222019-09%22%2C%22segments%22%3A%22-1000%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>NetMarketShare<\/strong><\/a> shows that Windows 7&#8217;s market share has dipped under 30%, while Windows 10 has reached its highest ever market share at 52.38%.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 7&#8217;s market share has been declining throughout 2019, but this decline has been more pronounced over the past few months.<\/p>\n<p>A major contributing factor to this is the fact that Microsoft has set the end-of-life deadline for Windows 7 at 14 January 2020.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Windows 7 continues to fall<\/h3>\n<p>Continued use of Windows 7 after the end-of-life deadline will leave users exposed to a variety of security vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, it is important that Windows 7 user numbers continue to drop &#8211; as it indicates that more users are becoming aware they need to upgrade their Windows 7 operating system before January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>NetMarketShare&#8217;s statistics show that this upgrade is happening at an accelerated pace.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 7&#8217;s market share has dropped by over 2% over the past month, and by over 7% in the second half of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Windows 10 has seen substantial gains in market share, up from 50.99% in August to 52.38% in September.<\/p>\n<p>Mac OS X 10.14 also saw surprising market share increases in September, with Apple adding over 1% of the market to its operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Below is how the market share of the top 5 desktop operating systems has changed since March 2019.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mybb_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"width: 100%;\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\">\n<thead>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #003366; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/321962-microsoft-reveals-dual-screen-surface-neo-laptop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Surface Neo<\/strong><\/a> dual-screen laptop.<\/p>\n<p>The Surface Neo will use Microsoft&#8217;s new Windows 10X operating system, which is designed specifically to run on dual-screen computing devices.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10X is essentially a modified version of Windows 10 rather than a completely new operating system, and takes advantage of the Surface Neo&#8217;s two displays to allow for superior multitasking.<\/p>\n<p>The Surface Duo foldable smartphone will not use a Microsoft operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, it will be powered by Android &#8211;
