{"id":323076,"date":"2019-10-11T13:12:57","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T11:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=323076"},"modified":"2019-10-11T13:14:39","modified_gmt":"2019-10-11T11:14:39","slug":"i-am-sorry-about-dstv-problems-multichoice-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/323076-i-am-sorry-about-dstv-problems-multichoice-ceo.html","title":{"rendered":"I am sorry about DStv problems &#8211; MultiChoice CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MultiChoice CEO Mark Rayner has apologised to DStv subscribers who were affected by recent billing problems.<\/p>\n<p>This follows <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/322356-dstv-billing-problems-check-your-statement-now.html\"><strong>a large number of complaints<\/strong><\/a> from DStv subscribers who said they were overcharged in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice spokesperson Benedict Maaga told MyBroadband that the launch of additional services over the years has created complexity in the company\u2019s billing.<\/p>\n<p>This complexity, he said, makes it more difficult for DStv customers to understand their billing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were different payment dates for different services, which led to inconsistent information on how much to pay and a need to pay multiple times a month,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing feedback from our customers, we have now consolidated all services on a customer\u2019s account resulting in easier billing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The billing changes means there is now \u201conly one amount to pay and only one payment required each month\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">MultiChoice CEO apologises<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.capetalk.co.za\/articles\/363403\/multichoice-boss-apologises-for-not-warning-dstv-subscribers-on-billing-changes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Speaking to Cape Talk<\/strong><\/a>, Rayner said they should have warned DStv subscribers about the planned billing changes before implementing them.<\/p>\n<p>According to MultiChoice, the hardware portion of the Price Lock plan instalment was previously billed in arrears.<\/p>\n<p>It is now billed in advance, which means that DStv Price Lock subscribers have seen an increase in their recent DStv bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tried to consolidate our complicated account structure. In doing that, we made a couple of slip-ups,\u201d said Rayner.<\/p>\n<p>He added that they can&#8217;t be excused for not making this clear to customers upfront.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe certainly don&#8217;t believe we did a good job of communicating.
