{"id":323900,"date":"2019-10-18T09:37:27","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T07:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=323900"},"modified":"2019-10-18T09:39:04","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T07:39:04","slug":"firefox-is-the-most-secure-mainstream-web-browser-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/323900-firefox-is-the-most-secure-mainstream-web-browser-germany.html","title":{"rendered":"Firefox is the most secure mainstream web browser &#8211; Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsi.bund.de\/SharedDocs\/Downloads\/DE\/BSI\/Mindeststandards\/Browser-Abgleich_Mindeststandard_Sichere_Web-Browser_V2_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tests<\/strong><\/a> conducted by Germany&#8217;s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) have concluded that Firefox is the most secure mainstream web browser.<\/p>\n<p>BSI leveraged a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsi.bund.de\/SharedDocs\/Downloads\/DE\/BSI\/Mindeststandards\/Mindeststandard_Sichere_Web-Browser_V2_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>guideline document<\/strong><\/a> that it published last month to advise government agencies and private sector companies on which web browser they should use.<\/p>\n<p>The test included Firefox 68, Chrome 76, Internet Explorer 11, and Edge 44.<\/p>\n<p>However, it excludes smaller popular browsers such as Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi &#8211; all of which place a particularly high focus on security.<\/p>\n<p>The BSI guidelines used are an updated version of the agency&#8217;s initial 2017 browser security guide, and include a variety of improved security measures present in modern browsers, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HSTS<\/li>\n<li>SRI<\/li>\n<li>CSP 2.0<\/li>\n<li>Telemetry handling<\/li>\n<li>Improved certificate handling mechanisms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Firefox was the only browser that supported every requirement of the BSI&#8217;s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Areas where all of the other tested browsers failed include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lack of support for a master password mechanism<\/li>\n<li>No option to block telemetry collection<\/li>\n<li>Lack of organizational transparency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Internet Explorer had a particularly poor showing in the tests, as it did not support a variety of new technologies, including SRI, CSP, and SOP, and did not include a built-in update mechanism.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read: <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/323830-big-tech-data-dominance-threatens-competition.html\" rel=\"bookmark\">Big Tech data dominance threatens competition<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tests conducted by Germany&#8217;s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) have concluded that Firefox is the most secure mainstream web browser.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":341039,"featured_media":282307,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16],"tags":[1567,981,983,30102],"class_list":["post-323900","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-software","tag-chrome","tag-firefox","tag-internet-explorer","tag-microsoft-edge"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/323900"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/341039"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=323900"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/323900\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":323950,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/323900\/revisions\/323950"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/282307"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=323900"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=323900"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=323900"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
