{"id":326111,"date":"2019-11-04T10:07:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T08:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=326111"},"modified":"2019-11-04T10:09:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-04T08:09:42","slug":"microsoft-reveals-new-edge-logo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/326111-microsoft-reveals-new-edge-logo.html","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft reveals new Edge logo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has unveiled the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VishnuNath\/status\/1190736893211578368?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1190736893211578368&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.engadget.com%2F2019%2F11%2F02%2Fmicrosofts-new-edge-logo-erases-bad-memories-of-internet-explor%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>logo<\/strong><\/a> for its upcoming Chromium-based Edge browser.<\/p>\n<p>The logo was hidden inside a mini-game in the latest Canary versions of Edge.<\/p>\n<p>The new logo looks is a blue-and-green-coloured wave in the shape of the letter &#8220;E&#8221; which bears little resemblance to Microsoft&#8217;s Internet Explorer logo.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Internet Explorer&#8217;s flawed legacy<\/h3>\n<p>Internet Explorer dominated the browser market in the late 1990&#8217;s and early 2000&#8217;s, largely due to being bundled with Windows.<\/p>\n<p>However, after suffering serious security exploits in Internet Explorer 6, which included key-logging and backdoor malware that exposed personal user information such as credit card credentials, the browser started to fall out of favour.<\/p>\n<p>With the arrival of Mozilla Firefox in 2005 and Google Chrome in 2008, users switched to browsers that had better overall security and support for features like plugins and extensions.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Microsoft launches Edge<\/h3>\n<p>Microsoft attempted to revitalise Internet Explorer by renaming the browser &#8220;Edge&#8221; in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Even though Edge has solid security and low RAM usage, it was not enough to convince most Firefox and Chrome users to switch.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has now opted to base the new version of Edge on Google&#8217;s open-source web browser, Chromium.<\/p>\n<p>A beta version of this browser was <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/08\/20\/microsofts-new-chromium-based-edge-browser-is-now-in-beta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>released<\/strong><\/a> in August.
