Telkom has recently launched an advertising campaign taking aim at iBurst’s ‘Play Special’ package which offers subscribers 40 MB of monthly usage at R 49.00 per month.<\/p>\n
In a print campaign Telkom states “R49 The price you pay for not reading the fine print”, clearly attacking iBurst’s ‘Play Special’ offering. The R 49 is further printed in orange, highlighting the iBurst connection.<\/p>\n
In another Telkom advertisement the punch line reads “More than meets the i", with the ‘i’ again printed in iBurst’s orange color (Telkom-iBurst ad available here<\/a>)<\/p>\n Striking a cord with consumers<\/strong><\/p>\n This R 49.00 offering from iBurst has come under fire from consumers, who are saying that the company lures unsuspecting customers into buying a service which hardly qualifies as broadband and will not serve their monthly Internet needs.<\/p>\n Even some of the staunchest Telkom critics found the advertisements to be appealing and an accurate critique of iBurst’s 40 MB offering.<\/p>\n “[It] would be stretching it too far to say that my enemy's enemy is my friend but the crit is spot on,” said one commentator. <\/p>\n Comments like “I still sit in shock when I see R49\/40MB cap offers. It’s despicable to say the least!” and “The point … even Telkom have noticed the iBurst R49 is totally crappy” are doing the rounds. From the sounds of things the response to this particular advertising campaign is an overwhelming thumbs up.<\/p>\n The advertisement further received a flood of 10\/10 votes in the image section where the advertisement was uploaded, showing once again that consumers heartily approve of Telkom’s tactic (image available here: http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/photos\/showphoto.php?photo=3026<\/a>).<\/p>\n iBurst however remains mum on the issue, and opted to refrain from commenting on the Telkom advertising campaign.<\/p>\n
