{"id":327,"date":"2007-06-19T07:49:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-19T05:49:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-06-19T07:49:00","modified_gmt":"2007-06-19T05:49:00","slug":"vodacom-to-launch-wimax-before-the-end-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/327-vodacom-to-launch-wimax-before-the-end-of-the-year.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom to launch WiMax before the end of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vodacom.co.za\">Vodacom<\/a> will start building a WiMax network on behalf of WBS, using their 2.5 GHz spectrum, and launch commercial broadband and corporate services over this network before the end of the year. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Pieter Uys, Vodacom&rsquo;s Chief Operating Officer, said that they see <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WiMAX\" target=\"_blank\">WiMax<\/a> as a technology which can provide them with additional capacity and spectrum to offer users high speed Internet access.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">According to Uys, spectrum will always be a restraining factor in providing users with high speed access in the wireless broadband arena, and that WiMax is a welcome addition to their current 3G-HSDPA technology.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Uys said that Vodacom sees WiMax as a great ADSL replacement technology and has confidence that it will serve the needs of the company well in the access space.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.neotel.co.za\">Neotel<\/a> has recently announced that they are also looking towards the end of 2007 for a commercial launch of their WiMax based &lsquo;true broadband&rsquo; offerings. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana\">This is in addition to Telkom who launch their commercial WiMax services this week.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Telkom will be offering a 512 Kbps WiMax service with similar pricing and usage limits as their Do Broadband offerings.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">MWEB recently started their WiMax trials in both Gauteng and Cape Town, and plans to have 1000 active trial users on their WiMax network to test the service.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=78760\">Comments<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vodacom is planning to build a WiMax network and launch commercial offerings before the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-327","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-broadband"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=327"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=327"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=327"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=327"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
