{"id":327401,"date":"2019-11-13T09:45:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-13T07:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=327401"},"modified":"2019-11-13T09:46:58","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T07:46:58","slug":"facebook-bug-opens-iphone-cameras-without-permission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/327401-facebook-bug-opens-iphone-cameras-without-permission.html","title":{"rendered":"Facebook bug opens iPhone cameras without permission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several Facebook users have <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/11\/12\/20961332\/facebooks-ios-app-reportedly-camera-background-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a><\/strong> that their iPhone cameras were inadvertently opening in the background of the mobile app.<\/p>\n<p>The issue appeared to be affecting devices running Facebook&#8217;s app on iOS 13.<\/p>\n<p>In one instance, a user discovered that the Facebook Stories camera UI would briefly open behind a video while switching from portrait to landscape mode.<\/p>\n<p>Then, after switching back to portrait, the app would open directly into the Facebook Stories camera.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today, while watching a video on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/facebook?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@facebook<\/a>, I rotated to landscape and could see the Facebook\/Instagram Story UI for a split second. When rotating back to portrait, the Story camera\/UI opened entirely. A little worrying&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7lVHHGedGf\">pic.twitter.com\/7lVHHGedGf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Neo QA (@neo_qa) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/neo_qa\/status\/1190639141979140097?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 2, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Web designer Joshua Maddux also posted a video on Twitter showing how the camera interface could be seen running in the background when slightly dragging down a photo.<\/p>\n<p>He tested and confirmed the issue on five different iPhones running iOS 13.2.2. Devices with iOS 12 did not seem to be affected.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook told The Verge that the issue was being caused by a bug in an app update from 8 November.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it found no proof of videos or photos that were uploaded due to the issue.
