{"id":331532,"date":"2019-12-05T10:59:58","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T08:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=331532"},"modified":"2019-12-05T11:00:29","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T09:00:29","slug":"cell-c-partners-with-explore-data-science-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/331532-cell-c-partners-with-explore-data-science-academy.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C partners with Explore Data Science Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cell C announced its partnership with the Explore Data Science education initiative for a year-long data science course at an event in Johannesburg today.<\/p>\n<p>Explore Data Science is an educational institution run by actuaries and engineers which offers a variety of courses in the field of data science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Africa has a couple of changes we&#8217;re trying to fix. One of those is youth unemployment,\u201d said Mark Schroeder, COO of Explore Data Science.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe we can get people ready for the workforce 10 times cheaper than the current education platforms. We teach problem-solving skills, learning how to learn, and curiosity; underlying that we have technical skills teaching that is of course also very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cell C Chief Human Capital Officer Juliette Mhango said that the Explore Data Science programme aligns with Cell C\u2019s business and transformation objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are finding that the youth are not equipped with the skills to get into business, so we&#8217;re trying to equip the youth with these skills which they can use both now and into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>10 Cell C employees will also take part in the course so that they can develop their data science skills.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Application process<\/h3>\n<p>Explore Data Science accepts students based on their aptitude rather than their matric or university marks.<\/p>\n<p>To be accepted, students must undergo a rigorous process that includes an aptitude test, a coding boot camp \u2013 to test that the learner can learn digital skills quickly and efficiently \u2013 and an in-person interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe journey is not easy.
