Vodacom has recently launched its first tier ISP division, Vodacom Business, promising to shake up the local telecoms space with innovative converged services solutions. <\/p>\n
Vodacom Business did not wait long to get to customers with offerings, and has already made its leased line and MPLS VPN services commercially available to the market.<\/p>\n
The company has also begun installing last-mile fibre tails into key customer sites for connectivity via their metro fibre backbone into their facilities in Midrand. <\/p>\n
“Some of our hosting services have also gone live and we have customers making use of these services already,” said Dot Field, Chief Communications Officer of the Vodacom Group.<\/p>\n
ADSL & WiMax around the corner<\/strong><\/p>\n In April Vodacom Business will launch ADSL, WiMax, Microwave, and Fiber services.<\/p>\n “Vodacom's WiMax network is ready to take to market with the last 25% of the WiMax phase 1 rollout to be completed during the next few days,” said Field.<\/p>\n Initial estimates indicated a March 2008 WiMax launched, but Vodacom said that a commercial launch has had to be pushed out 30 days due to critical CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) supply shortages. <\/p>\n “As soon as adequate quantities of CPE are available, the user trials will kick-off within the next few weeks,” Field concluded.<\/p>\n
