MTN may do the same, but <strong><em>Cell C and 8ta have no such plans<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Vodacom BlackBerry Caps\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/33680-vodacom-blackberry-internet-service-cap-introduced.html\">Vodacom announced this week<\/a> (12 September 2011) that they will throttle the speeds of their <a title=\"BlackBerry\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342709-BlackBerry\">BlackBerry<\/a> Internet Service (BIS) subscribers who exceed 100MB of usage per month from 3G to 2G. Blackberry Enterprise Users will not be affected by this decision.<\/p>\n<p>This decision comes on the back of research which Vodacom said showed that more than 95% of BlackBerry data usage was attributable to less than 5% of users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we realised that such a small minority was using the bulk of the capacity, we decided to implement measures that will ensure that Blackberry users will enjoy a better browsing experience overall,\u201d said Chief Technology Officer <a title=\"Andries Delport\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/248934-Andries-Delport\">Andries Delport<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 5% of the base who are not using the service for what it was intended will have their connection speed reduced from 3G to 2G levels,\u201d Vodacom said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">MTN, Cell C and 8a<\/h3>\n<p>This decision by <a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> raises the question whether other BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) providers in South Africa will do the same?<\/p>\n<p>When <a title=\"8ta\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/276092-8ta\">8ta<\/a> was confronted with the question as to whether they have plans to implement a usage limit on their BlackBerry Internet Service users, the company sidestepped the question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c8ta continues to offer the 500MB of data as part of the BlackBerry offer.
