Vodacom has signed a roaming and managed services agreement with Liquid Telecom which will enable the company to launch 5G services this year.<\/p>\n
Liquid Telecom announced in January<\/strong><\/a> that it plans to launch a wholesale 5G network in South Africa in early 2020.<\/p>\n The company said its wholesale 5G network, which uses its 3.5GHz spectrum, will be available from early 2020 in all major South African cities.<\/p>\n \u201cThis network will enable wholesale operators to create innovative, ultra-fast, and scalable digital services for their customers,\u201d Liquid Telecom chairman Strive Masiyiwa said.<\/p>\n Masiyiwa added that mobile network operators and ISPs will have open access to the 5G mobile network.<\/p>\n Vodacom has now announced a partnership with Liquid Telecom where it will manage the network on behalf of Liquid Telecom.<\/p>\n Through this agreement, Vodacom will roam on Liquid Telecom\u2019s 5G network, which will allow the mobile operator to launch 5G services in South Africa.<\/p>\n \u201cThis agreement will allow Vodacom to offer customers a leading connectivity experience at a time when most 5G spectrum is yet to be assigned,\u201d Vodacom said.<\/p>\n The mobile operator added that 5G services are currently being trialled ahead of a commercial launch during this year.<\/p>\n The partnership between Vodacom and Liquid Telecom is similar to Vodacom\u2019s current agreement with Rain.<\/p>\n Vodacom explained that its agreement with Rain means Rain procures the active radio equipment, OSS systems, and software required for its network and roaming agreement.<\/p>\n Vodacom, in turn, provides Rain with access to its passive infrastructure, which includes mast space, shared antennas, space in its containers, power, and cooling.<\/p>\n Vodacom\u2019s agreement with Rain provided the opportunity for subscribers to roam on the Rain network, giving them better coverage and less congestion.<\/p>\n It is likely that the agreement with Liquid Telecom will follow a similar structure as it passed regulatory scrutiny.<\/p>\n Vodacom has also concluded a deal with Rain<\/strong><\/a> to extend its roaming and facilities leasing agreements beyond its original agreement of 5,000 sites to virtually all Vodacom sites.<\/p>\n This agreement will enable Vodacom to increase access to 4G capacity at more favourable terms.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is an important agreement in an environment where spectrum remains a key capacity constraint for all networks,\u201d Vodacom said.<\/p>\n Vodacom is currently trialling 5G ahead of a commercial launch this year, thanks to a partnership with Liquid Telecom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":281323,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[19420,35,3116,43716,41],"class_list":["post-337544","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cellular","tag-5g","tag-headline","tag-liquid-telecom","tag-rain","tag-vodacom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/337544"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=337544"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/337544\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":337546,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/337544\/revisions\/337546"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/281323"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=337544"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=337544"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=337544"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}Partnership between Vodacom and Liquid Telecom<\/h3>\n
