{"id":341095,"date":"2020-03-04T08:15:46","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T06:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=341095"},"modified":"2020-03-04T08:19:03","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T06:19:03","slug":"whatsapp-dark-mode-is-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/341095-whatsapp-dark-mode-is-here.html","title":{"rendered":"WhatsApp dark mode is here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WhatsApp&#8217;s dark mode has begun rolling out on both Android and iOS.<\/p>\n<p>The feature was first <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/301232-whatsapp-is-working-on-a-dark-mode.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>mentioned<\/strong><\/a> in March 2019 in a beta update for the popular messaging app.<\/p>\n<p>It had since been learned that WhatsApp was working on dark modes for both <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/322472-whatsapp-dark-mode-is-coming-to-android.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Android<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/325767-whatsapp-working-on-two-dark-modes-for-ios.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>iOS<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; both of which have been launched to users today.<\/p>\n<p>Users of Android 10 and iOS 13 can implement dark mode by enabling it in their system settings.<\/p>\n<p>Those who are on Android 9 and below can do so by navigating to <strong>WhatsApp Settings &gt; Chats &gt; Theme &gt;<\/strong> and then selecting <strong>Dark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dark mode for WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience. It\u2019s designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments,&#8221; said WhatsApp in a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.whatsapp.com\/10000667\/Dark-mode-now-available-for-iPhone-and-Android\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>statement<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope it helps prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Benefits of dark mode<\/h3>\n<p>WhatsApp said it focused on two key areas when developing its dark mode:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Readability &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;When choosing colors, we wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colors that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Information Hierarchy &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;We wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen.
