{"id":342145,"date":"2020-03-11T11:54:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T09:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=342145"},"modified":"2020-03-11T11:57:42","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T09:57:42","slug":"e3-2020-cancelled-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/342145-e3-2020-cancelled-report.html","title":{"rendered":"E3 2020 cancelled &#8211; Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is the latest major event to be cancelled due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2020\/03\/e3-2020-has-been-canceled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>according to a report from Ars Technica.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The three-day convention is the world&#8217;s biggest annual gaming event.<\/p>\n<p>Game publishers and other major industry players often use E3 as a platform to showcase upcoming games or to reveal new titles. Over 66,000 people attended the event in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>As in previous years, E3 was set to take place in June at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Ars Technica said multiple sources familiar with the event&#8217;s plans told them it was set to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>One source claimed that the official public statement was due to be released on Tuesday, but that it had &#8220;slipped.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Cost of cancellations<\/h3>\n<p>The announcement follows the postponement of another big event on the gaming calendar &#8211; The Gaming Developer Conference (GDC).<\/p>\n<p>GDC was scheduled to take place in March, with around 30,000 people in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>A number of other major tech events have either been cancelled or moved online due to fears of spreading the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>This includes GSMA&#8217;s Mobile World Congress (MWC), Google I\/O, Facebook&#8217;s F8 event, SXSW, and IBM&#8217;s Think conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/recode\/2020\/3\/3\/21162802\/tech-conferences-cancellation-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Recode<\/strong><\/a> reported that the combined losses from these events run over $1 billion.
