{"id":34846,"date":"2011-09-28T09:18:29","date_gmt":"2011-09-28T07:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=34846"},"modified":"2011-09-28T09:19:37","modified_gmt":"2011-09-28T07:19:37","slug":"bittorrent-protocol-to-ease-network-congestion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/34846-bittorrent-protocol-to-ease-network-congestion.html","title":{"rendered":"BitTorrent protocol to ease network congestion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking at the Broadband World Forum,<a title=\"BitTorrent\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/359832-BitTorrent\"> BitTorrent<\/a> CEO <a title=\"Eric Klinker\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/368664-Eric-Klinker\">Eric Klinker<\/a> spoke extensively about the company\u2019s Micro Transport Protocol (\u03bcTP), a technology that improves network efficiency and decreases decongestion.<\/p>\n<p>Klinker was quick to slam the current Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) that much of the internet uses to transmit data.<\/p>\n<p>TCP detects congestion based on lost packets,&#8221; said Klinker. &#8220;This is a lot like driving your car through a school zone and only slowing down after you&#8217;ve struck your first pedestrian.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u03bcTP detects network congestion earlier than the TCP protocol, and is designed to \u201cyield\u201d to traffic on the network.
