{"id":350696,"date":"2020-05-05T11:33:39","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T09:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=350696"},"modified":"2020-05-05T11:34:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-05T09:34:19","slug":"free-upgrade-for-dstv-compact-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/350696-free-upgrade-for-dstv-compact-customers.html","title":{"rendered":"Free upgrade for DStv Compact customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DStv has temporarily upgraded Compact subscribers to the Compact Plus bouquet, allowing these users to access a variety of channels which were previously unavailable to them.<\/p>\n<p>The company confirmed the change in response to questions from subscribers on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DStvCare\/status\/1257428726553477127\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Twitter<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the month of May, DStv Compact subscribers will have access to the DStv Compact Plus channels at no additional charge,&#8221; DStv support staff told customers.<\/p>\n<p>Due to this free time-limited upgrade to Compact Plus for Compact subscribers, these viewers will now have access to 16 additional channels at no extra cost.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">New channels for DStv Compact<\/h3>\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dstv.co.za\/get-dstv\/packages\/dstv-compact-plus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DStv&#8217;s channel list on its website<\/a><\/strong>, DStv Compact Plus subscribers will now have access to the following channels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>103<\/strong> &#8211; 1Magic<\/li>\n<li><strong>114<\/strong> &#8211; M-Net Binge<\/li>\n<li><strong>122<\/strong> &#8211; Comedy Central<\/li>\n<li><strong>123<\/strong> &#8211; ITV Choice<\/li>\n<li><strong>144<\/strong> &#8211; kykNET<\/li>\n<li><strong>153<\/strong> &#8211; AfricaMagic Urban Movies<\/li>\n<li><strong>170<\/strong> &#8211; CBS Justice<\/li>\n<li><strong>185<\/strong> &#8211; Curiosity Stream<\/li>\n<li><strong>186<\/strong> &#8211; The History Channel<\/li>\n<li><strong>208<\/strong> &#8211; SuperSport 8<\/li>\n<li><strong>212<\/strong> &#8211; SuperSport 12<\/li>\n<li><strong>213<\/strong> &#8211; SuperSport 13 HD<\/li>\n<li><strong>306<\/strong> &#8211; Cbeebies<\/li>\n<li><strong>307<\/strong> &#8211; Nick Jr<\/li>\n<li><strong>323<\/strong> &#8211; MTV Music 24<\/li>\n<li><strong>402<\/strong> &#8211; SkyNews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The M-Net Binge channel was introduced as a pop-up channel following the implementation of the national coronavirus lockdown, addressing the increase in media consumption due to more people staying at home.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Pressure to drop prices<\/h3>\n<p>This follows after the hashtag <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/349173-dstv-under-pressure-to-cut-prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>#DStvMustFall<\/strong><\/a> trended on Twitter at the end of April 2020, with customers putting pressure on the broadcaster to lower its prices.<\/p>\n<p>Many users are subscribed to DStv, particularly DStv Premium, because it offers excellent sports coverage through SuperSport.<\/p>\n<p>The coronavirus pandemic has shut down the world\u2019s biggest sporting events, however, leaving sports broadcasters with little fresh content to provide to their viewers.<\/p>\n<p>Adding fuel to the fire was the fact that DStv implemented price increases in the first week of April \u2013 during the national lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>The monthly fees for Premium, Compact Plus, and Family subscribers went up.<\/p>\n<p>To make up for the lack of live sports on its platform, SuperSport has been broadcasting various documentaries and repeats of famous matches.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hi, during the month of May, DStv Compact subscribers will have access to the DStv Compact Plus channels at no additional charge. ~TC<\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
