Summary:<\/span> South Africa is likely to form part of Apple\u2019s third iPhone 4S launch wave, which means that the device will arrive in the country before the end of 2011<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Apple<\/a> unveiled its latest mobile phone, the iPhone 4S, on Tuesday 4 October. This device sports a faster processor than the iPhone 4, a better camera, longer battery life and improved connectivity.<\/p>\n

Local consumers are still in the dark as to when the device will arrive in South Africa. There is however hope that the iPhone 4S will launch in SA before the end of 2011.<\/p>\n

A source close to one of the cellular providers told MyBroadband that South Africa is typically part of the third wave of the Apple iPhone launch cycle.<\/p>\n

Apple announced that the iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on Friday, October 14. Another 22 countries will get the device by the end of October.<\/p>\n

Apple added that the iPhone 4S will arrive in 70 more countries by the end of the year. This third launch wave (which is what the industry source referred to) is likely to include South Africa.<\/p>\n

MTN<\/a> SA CEO Karel Pienaar<\/a> said that their subscribers can be assured that they will do their best to get the iPhone 4S to MTN stores as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Vodacom also indicated that they will strive to get the new iPhone in their customers\u2019 hands as soon as they can.<\/p>\n

We may well see the same scenario as we did with the iPhone 4, where MTN and Vodacom<\/a> launch the device on the same day \u2013 some time before Christmas this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
