{"id":354291,"date":"2020-06-01T09:22:20","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T07:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=354291"},"modified":"2020-06-01T09:23:12","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T07:23:12","slug":"windows-10-continues-to-dominate-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/354291-windows-10-continues-to-dominate-windows-7.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 continues to dominate Windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 has continued its rise as the dominant desktop operating system in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Following a decline in market share in April, May market share statistics from <a href=\"https:\/\/netmarketshare.com\/operating-system-market-share.aspx?options=%7B%22filter%22%3A%7B%22%24and%22%3A%5B%7B%22deviceType%22%3A%7B%22%24in%22%3A%5B%22Desktop%2Flaptop%22%5D%7D%7D%5D%7D%2C%22dateLabel%22%3A%22Custom%22%2C%22attributes%22%3A%22share%22%2C%22group%22%3A%22platformVersion%22%2C%22sort%22%3A%7B%22share%22%3A-1%7D%2C%22id%22%3A%22platformsDesktopVersions%22%2C%22dateInterval%22%3A%22Monthly%22%2C%22dateStart%22%3A%222020-05%22%2C%22dateEnd%22%3A%222020-05%22%2C%22hiddenSeries%22%3A%7B%7D%2C%22segments%22%3A%22-1000%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>NetMarketShare<\/strong><\/a> show that Windows 10 not only reversed this downward trend, but it now boasts more of the market than it did before last month&#8217;s blip.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 7, which is the second most popular operating system in the world, continued its descent, with its market share slipping below the 25% mark.<\/p>\n<p>This is a good sign for system security, as Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft except for those who pay for essential security updates.<\/p>\n<p>This means that those who are still using Windows 7 on their computers without paying for essential security updates are at high risk of viruses and malware.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, the best way for you to stay secure is on Windows 10,\u201d Microsoft has <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/335334-rip-windows-7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>said<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">MacOS<\/h3>\n<p>Apple&#8217;s latest MacOS operating system, MacOS X 10.15, continues to increase its market share and solidify its position as the third most popular desktop operating system.<\/p>\n<p>MacOS X 10.15 has increased from 4.15% market share in April to 4.27% in May.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, older versions of MacOS are losing market share &#8211; which makes sense as more Apple computer users upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.<\/p>\n<p>MacOS X 10.14 is down from 2.62% to 2.54%, MacOS X 10.13 is down from 1.52% to 1.48%<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">The other operating systems<\/h3>\n<p>Linux operating systems have shown growth in May, with both Ubuntu and Linux overall increasing their market share.<\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu, which saw an exponential rise last month, increased its market share to 2% in May &#8211;
