{"id":35566,"date":"2011-10-07T13:59:22","date_gmt":"2011-10-07T11:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=35566"},"modified":"2011-10-07T14:03:11","modified_gmt":"2011-10-07T12:03:11","slug":"hetzner-hacked-but-sa-clients-not-affected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/35566-hetzner-hacked-but-sa-clients-not-affected.html","title":{"rendered":"Hetzner hacked, but SA clients not affected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Summary:\u00a0<\/span> There was a security breach of German-based Hetzner Online\u2019s systems this week, but Hetzner South Africa was not affected by the intrusion<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hetzner Online (based in Germany) informed their customers this week (5 October 2011) of a security breach of their systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as we can presently reconstruct, the attackers could have been able to access internal customer data on Hetzner Online&#8217;s administrative systems,\u201d Hetzner Online told their subscribers via e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>Hetzner said that they have \u201cno information regarding data abuse from customers\u201d, but still advised their users to change all passwords on the Hetzner system as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p>The good news for South African Hetzner subscribers is that they are not affected by the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not share a database or code repository with Hetzner Online and as such we have not been affected by the compromise,\u201d Hetzner SA said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccess to hosts on the Hetzner Online network which belong to us, are securely locked down and is managed in its entirety by Hetzner SA.
