{"id":35718,"date":"2011-10-11T12:00:24","date_gmt":"2011-10-11T10:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=35718"},"modified":"2011-10-11T16:53:14","modified_gmt":"2011-10-11T14:53:14","slug":"vodacom-calls-for-local-loop-audit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/35718-vodacom-calls-for-local-loop-audit.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom calls for local loop audit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Summary:<\/span> Vodacom supports ICASA\u2019s local loop unbundling (LLU) process, but says that a local loop audit is necessary to determine the current state of Telkom\u2019s copper local loop<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The <a title=\"Local Loop Unbundling (LLU)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/224823-Local-loop-unbundling\">local loop unbundling (LLU)<\/a> hearings kicked off today (11 October 2011) where stakeholders are trying to convince <a title=\"Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226385-ICASA\">ICASA<\/a> that their LLU plans are the best.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\">MTN<\/a> supported LLU, but asked ICASA to leave the mobile and wireless local loops alone.<\/p>\n<p>In their presentation, Vodacom supported ICASA&#8217;s intention to use the Electronic Communications Facilities Leasing Regulations (Facilities Leasing Regulations) to unbundle the local loop.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom said that they would like to see all four internationally recognised forms of LLU implemented: bit stream access, line sharing, full local loop unbundling and sub-loop unbundling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe access seeker should then be able to determine which form [of LLU] to implement based on specific requirements on a case by case basis,\u201d said Vodacom.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom called on ICASA to undertake a local loop audit to determine the current state of the local loop.
