Lars Bak<\/a>, a programmer and project leader on Dart detailed the new language in a talk at the Goto Conference in Denmark as well as a blog post online.<\/p>\n

Dart is apparently capable of dealing with small, unstructured projects, right the way up to large complicated programs such as Gmail and Google<\/a> Docs according to Bak.<\/p>\n

Bak went on, “If we want to focus on making the Web better over time, we have to innovate, including with new programming languages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dart is not seen as a replacement to JavaScript however, it plans to be an alternative available to those who would prefer something over the tried and tested JavaScript. “It’s not going to replace JavaScript,” Bak said. “JavaScript is a cornerstone of the Web today, and it will continue to be for a long, long time.”<\/p>\n

Google is evaluating the best way to integrate Dart directly into Chrome<\/a>, something that would enable new features such as \u201cSnapshotting\u201d, which allows web applications to load much faster than previously thanks to a \u201csterilisation\u201d process where the application is condensed into a single block of data.<\/p>\n

In one test, a 55,000-line Dart program loaded in 60 milliseconds, compared to the 640 milliseconds it took without snapshotting.<\/p>\n
