{"id":36202,"date":"2011-10-17T10:03:12","date_gmt":"2011-10-17T08:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=36202"},"modified":"2011-10-17T10:05:00","modified_gmt":"2011-10-17T08:05:00","slug":"siri-on-iphone-4-not-likely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/36202-siri-on-iphone-4-not-likely.html","title":{"rendered":"Siri on iPhone 4 not likely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Steven Troughton-Smith, an iOS enthusiast who hacked the code of <a title=\"Apple\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342717-Apple-inc\">Apple\u2019s<\/a> digital assistant software Siri, the only thing stopping consumers using the application on their regular iPhone 4 is server side authentication.<\/p>\n<p>Siri uses server-side software to determine user requests, which means if you\u2019re stuck without internet coverage, the Siri application will not function. In the case of the iPhone 4 version of Siri, the software functions as if the device cannot connect to the internet. This is because Apple servers refuse to authenticate iPhone 4-issued commands.<\/p>\n<p>Apple has been notorious in the past for limiting user actions if they will affect the performance of i-devices, so it could be that they don\u2019t want to ruin the experience of Siri on the older, slower iPhone 4.
