{"id":364050,"date":"2020-08-17T08:33:21","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T06:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=364050"},"modified":"2020-08-17T08:36:24","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T06:36:24","slug":"new-battery-saving-feature-for-google-chrome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/364050-new-battery-saving-feature-for-google-chrome.html","title":{"rendered":"New battery-saving feature for Google Chrome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google is testing a new feature that will let websites recommend ways Chrome can reduce battery usage when accessing them, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.thewindowsclub.com\/chrome-will-allow-websites-to-switch-to-battery-saving-mode-102329\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Windows Club<\/strong><\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>This Battery-Savings Meta Tag feature is particularly relevant for video streaming and video conferencing websites and will allow users to reduce their CPU usage.<\/p>\n<p>An explainer on GitHub detailed that the feature would align with the battery saving features on modern operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most modern OSes also have battery saving features that kick in either when the battery is low or the user wishes to save battery,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/chrishtr\/battery-savings\/blob\/master\/explainer.md\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>said<\/strong><\/a> Github user Chrishtr.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ideally web sites should be able to respect these settings.
