The Notebook Company<\/a>, a notebook and accessories retailer in South Africa, said that it has removed the Dell<\/a> logos from all its online and offline advertising at the behest of Dell.<\/p>\n

According to the retailer they have replaced all Dell\u2019s logos on their websites with \u201cDell PartnerDirect Registered\u201d images as per Dell\u2019s requests.<\/p>\n

Dell\u2019s lawyers, Adams & Adams, informed The Notebook Company earlier this year (June 2011) that all Dell logos must be removed<\/a> from any signage, websites or\u00a0other\u00a0material displayed by The Notebook Company.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am still of the belief that you will not find this kind of\u00a0pettiness from other brands that have used the channel for a long time,\u201d The Notebook Company CEO Christopher Riley<\/a> said in a press statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnically, each time you see an advert using logos of products such as HP<\/a>, Lenovo<\/a>, Sony<\/a>, Toshiba<\/a>, Acer<\/a> from a retailer they should have received permission from \u00a0the trademark holder to display the logo. We all know this does not happen. But there seems to be an unspoken agreement that if you stay under the radar and none of the other retailers complain you are fine, and no one will point out the\u00a0technicalities\u00a0of the law to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Riley went on to say that they even have difficulty promoting Dell through Google<\/a> as the word \u201cDell\u201d is not allowed in the advert text.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt still concerns me that Dell makes it quite difficult for prospective customers to find retailers of its products,\u201d Riley said.<\/p>\n

Dell was contacted to tell their side of the story and provided the following statement: \u201cThe terms of the settlement agreed between The Notebook Company and Dell in favour of Dell is confidential, therefore, Dell is unable to comment.\u201d<\/p>\n
