{"id":37084,"date":"2011-10-28T14:02:48","date_gmt":"2011-10-28T12:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=37084"},"modified":"2011-10-31T09:29:53","modified_gmt":"2011-10-31T07:29:53","slug":"the-mobile-cloud-get-informed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/37084-the-mobile-cloud-get-informed.html","title":{"rendered":"The mobile cloud &#8211; get informed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The increase in mobile devices and applications is changing the way in which consumers relate to businesses and products.<\/p>\n<p>Although the concept of mobile cloud-computing is a popular one, many organisations are not fully aware of the requirements behind it.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a title=\"Roelof Louw\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/377314-Roelof-Louw\">Roelof Louw<\/a>, Head of ITO Pre-sales Systems at <a title=\"T-Systems\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/355054-T-Systems\">T-Systems<\/a> in South Africa, there are a number of things to consider before taking the leap towards mobile, cloud-based architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the T-Systems Symposium, Louw clearly defined the concept of the mobile cloud:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mobile cloud-computing is not mobile computing.<\/li>\n<li>Mobility in the cloud is a hosted, centralised offering that runs mobile enterprise extensions and services in a virtualised environment.<\/li>\n<li>The mobile cloud is made available through various structures &#8211; including the pay-per-service or pay-per-use model &#8211; and is aligned to industry best practices for the provisioning of these services<\/li>\n<li>It is important that these devices are managed securely\u2013 particularly within the context of the private cloud<\/li>\n<li>It should be governed by industry standards and up-to-date security solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Louw also emphasised the physical benefits behind mobile cloud-computing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Offers a flexible, shared service.<\/li>\n<li>Saves costs on physical infrastructure implementation.<\/li>\n<li>Allows for greener IT practices due to remote access to data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the benefits, Louw encouraged early mobile cloud adopters to be wary of the pitfalls behind a poorly-implemented cloud model \u2013 information security being one of the most significant.<\/p>\n<p>According to Louw, detailed in-house policy is vital to the success of the mobile cloud model.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompanies should establish a clear mobile cloud policy which can be based on available best practices and guidelines,&#8221; he said. \u201cWithout effective security and management, mobile cloud computing will not enjoy adoption and the resultant benefits it promises to deliver\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile cloud-computing &#8211; know what it is, before you take the plunge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":32740,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14,25],"tags":[36,727,217,6220,6222,463],"class_list":["post-37084","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cellular","category-cloud-hosting","tag-active","tag-cloud-computing","tag-hosting","tag-mobile-cloud","tag-policy","tag-security-2"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37084"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=37084"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37084\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":37128,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37084\/revisions\/37128"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/32740"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=37084"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=37084"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=37084"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
