{"id":372164,"date":"2020-10-21T08:57:36","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T06:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=372164"},"modified":"2020-10-21T08:59:01","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T06:59:01","slug":"windows-10-october-update-launched-with-new-start-menu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/372164-windows-10-october-update-launched-with-new-start-menu.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 October Update launched with new Start menu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has launched its October 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windowsexperience\/2020\/10\/20\/whats-new-in-the-windows-10-october-2020-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>update<\/strong><\/a> for Windows, which brings a number of improvements to the popular operating system.<\/p>\n<p>One of the more notable features of this update is a redesign of the Start menu.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft said that it has streamlined the design of the Start Menu, including a uniform, partially transparent background.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this update, Microsoft has also redesigned the app icons of Calculator, Mail, and Calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Users can add some colour to their Start menu by turning on the dark theme and navigating to <strong>Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Colour<\/strong> and toggling &#8220;Show accent colour on the following surfaces&#8221; for &#8220;Start, taskbar, and action centre&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Other new features available in this update include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Smooth settings &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>You can manually change the refresh rate your display uses by navigating to <strong>Settings &gt; System &gt; Display &gt; Advanced display settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2-in-1 toast elimination &#8211;<\/strong> 2-in-1 devices will automatically switch to the Windows tablet experience by default, rather than waiting until the user confirms this on the notification toast that would previously pop up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Noticeable notifications &#8211; <\/strong>There are new app logos at the top of notifications which make it significantly easier to identify who they are from.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Simpler taskbar &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>New Windows users will get a &#8220;cleaner, more personalized, out-of-box experience featuring a taskbar specifically curated for you.&#8221; (This is limited to new account creation or first logon scenarios)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Microsoft Edge improvements<\/h3>\n<p>Included in this update is the latest version of Microsoft Edge, which has a number of new features.<\/p>\n<p>Collections is a new tool coming to Edge which will allow users to save and share content they find online and shares your collections between your PC and mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s perfect for holiday shopping, school research and even planning next spring\u2019s camping trip,&#8221; said Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>Complementing this feature is Price Comparison, which lets you find the best price for an item when you add it to one of your collections.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re proud to say Microsoft Edge is the best browser for shopping this holiday,&#8221;
