{"id":37975,"date":"2011-11-10T13:46:58","date_gmt":"2011-11-10T11:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=37975"},"modified":"2011-11-11T09:55:30","modified_gmt":"2011-11-11T07:55:30","slug":"broadband-coverage-and-capacity-challenges-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/37975-broadband-coverage-and-capacity-challenges-in-sa.html","title":{"rendered":"Broadband coverage and capacity challenges in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe explosion of broadband data usage in South Africa and internationally is creating an ever-growing set of coverage and capacity challenges that cannot be addressed effectively by any single technology,\u201d <a title=\"Winston Smith\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/349630-Winston-Smith\">Winston Smith<\/a>, head of <a title=\"Alvarion\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/380943-Alvarion\">Alvarion<\/a> in South Africa, is quoted in a press statement issued today.<\/p>\n<p>Smith added that the same is true for all types of wireless broadband networks from tier 1 mobile carriers to wireless internet service providers, enterprises, governments and municipalities, and private network operators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe subscriber numbers and uptake of broadband for wireless users is much higher than in cabled options in South Africa, and this trend is set to continue into 2012,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe solution to under-capacity is to employ multiple complementary technologies which can be optimised for various types of networks and applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alvarion highlighted that, in line with this \u201cmulti-technology approach,\u201d it recently signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wavion, a carrier-grade Wi-Fi provider.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37979\" title=\"Winston Smith -
