MultiChoice<\/a> has confirmed that the launch of the online version of its on-demand movie rental service, BoxOffice, has been delayed until Q1 2012.<\/p>\n

BoxOffice was first launched on DStv\u2019s<\/a> satellite platform to premium subscribers towards the middle of this year (2011).<\/p>\n

At the launch, DStv Online CEO John Kotsaftis<\/a> said that they hadn\u2019t forgotten about online and would bring BoxOffice to the Internet by the end of 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kotsaftis promised that the service would be available to all South Africans – not just DStv subscribers and that they plan to support both Windows and Mac PCs.<\/p>\n

He also explained that they are looking at using a PC as a kind of PVR (personal video recorder) rather than streaming the video, to work within South Africa\u2019s bandwidth constrained environment.<\/p>\n

Although all their other plans still seem to be intact, MultiChoice said that they are still busy with testing and have rescheduled the launch for the first quarter of 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will initially start a limited beta service, which will later be followed by a full commercial launch,\u201d MultiChoice said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs communicated previously, this service will be available to all South African consumers. DStv is committed to launching world-class services to the market,\u201d the pay TV operator added.<\/p>\n
