{"id":390062,"date":"2021-03-19T07:59:23","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T05:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=390062"},"modified":"2021-03-19T08:01:14","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T06:01:14","slug":"apple-warns-against-unauthorised-ad-tracking-workarounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/390062-apple-warns-against-unauthorised-ad-tracking-workarounds.html","title":{"rendered":"Apple warns against unauthorised ad tracking workarounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple Inc. said it will apply App Store rules to all apps globally after reports that Chinese app developers are preparing workarounds for the company\u2019s upcoming limits on ad tracking.<\/p>\n<p>The Cupertino, California-based technology giant plans to release a software update called iOS 14.5 in coming weeks that requires users to give permission before apps can track them across other services and websites for targeted advertising.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook Inc. and other digital ad companies\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-12-16\/facebook-attacks-apple-s-ios-changes-in-full-page-newspaper-ads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>worry<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that most people won\u2019t give permission, crimping their revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Several Chinese technology companies, including Baidu Inc., ByteDance Ltd. and Tencent Holdings Ltd., are preparing workarounds for Apple\u2019s new policy, according to the Financial Times.<\/p>\n<p>They are using a system called<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.china-caa.org\/digital\/caid\/intro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>CAID<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0developed by the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.china-caa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China Advertising Association<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and a government think tank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe App Store terms and guidelines apply equally to all developers around the world, including Apple,\u201d the U.S. tech giant said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe strongly that users should be asked for their permission before being tracked.
