Earlier this week, Microsoft<\/a> previewed its upcoming Windows<\/a> Store, which the software company previously announced as the distribution point for Metro style applications.<\/p>\n

Metro is the design language Microsoft has adopted for Windows Phone and Windows 8, and only applications that make use of it will be distributed through the Windows Store.<\/p>\n

Microsoft revealed that the revenue share base is 70%, but when an app achieves $25,000 (USD) in revenue, it increases to 80% revenue share for the lifetime of the app.<\/p>\n

In a blog post previewing the Windows Store, partner programme manager Ted Dworkin<\/a> wrote that the increase is to reward successful apps.<\/p>\n

Individual developers will have to pay a registration fee of $49 to use the Windows Store, while the registration fee for companies will be $99, according to Dworkin.<\/p>\n

Dworkin also said that the platform has support for free apps, time-based and feature-based trials, paid apps, and in-app purchases.<\/p>\n

The Windows Store will open when the Windows 8 beta is released, Microsoft said. The beta for Windows 8 is expected in February 2012.<\/p>\n

When asked about whether South African developers (and users) would have access to the store, a local Microsoft representatives said that they still have no view as to when this will be available in SA.<\/p>\n
