Cybersmart has launched its Night Rider ADSL service, offering five times the usage allowance for all data used between 1:00am and 7:59am. <\/p>\n
This is the first ‘after hours’ ADSL service which passes the benefits of quiet times on the network to the consumer.<\/p>\n
The service is available to all subscribers with a 384 Kbps and 512 Kbps ADSL line from Cybersmart. It is currently not available to 4 Mbps users.<\/p>\n
The service is priced at an additional R 25.00 per month over and above the standard ADSL line and ISP charges. <\/p>\n
According to Cybersmart MD Laurie Fialkov most trial users indicated that they were willing to pay between R 50.00 and R 210.00 for this service, but he is confident that it is financially viable to provide the service for R 25.00.<\/p>\n
Fialkov further said that those trialing the service were very happy with the speeds achieved during ‘night rider’ times, irrespective of whether it was P2P traffic or FTP\/HTTP downloads.<\/p>\n
The Cybersmart MD expects their all-in-one ADSL 384 service with a 1 GB cap to be the most popular. For R 194.00 per month users get DSL 384 access, a 1 GB usage limit and the Night Rider service. <\/p>\n
This effectively means that users can theoretically use up to 5 GB of date – if all usage falls within the ‘night rider’ period – for a smaller monthly cost than Telkom’s DSL 384 service with a 1 GB usage limit.<\/p>\n
“Night Rider is ideal for those customers who wish to backup their machines remotely at night to offshore servers. Users who would like to schedule downloads of their favourite movies or for system administrators that need to download the latest ISO’s to trial or to get the latest patches for their servers will also benefit from this new service,” said Fialkov.<\/p>\n
