{"id":40067,"date":"2011-12-19T13:23:50","date_gmt":"2011-12-19T11:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=40067"},"modified":"2011-12-19T13:25:10","modified_gmt":"2011-12-19T11:25:10","slug":"internet-boosts-self-confidence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/40067-internet-boosts-self-confidence.html","title":{"rendered":"Internet boosts self confidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Forty seven percent of South Africa&#8217;s population finds that using the internet has improved their self confidence, according to a global survey released on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have seen that the internet can become addictive, some of the most engaged are those people in markets where internet access has been limited &#8211; as soon as the infrastructure becomes available people make the most of it,&#8221; said <a title=\"TNS Infratest\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/380575-TNS-Infratest\">TNS<\/a> chief development officer <a title=\"Matthew Froggatt\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/380701-Matthew-Froggatt\">Matthew Froggatt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The survey&#8217;s findings show that advances in infrastructure open up the markets for newcomers to the internet to realise the potential to expand their world and the opportunities available to them.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the internet helped to improve their self-confidence, just 12 percent of those online in France and Germany agreed, compared to 42 percent of internet users in China, 52 percent in India and 55 percent in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In South Africa 47 percent told us the internet helped to improve their self confidence.
