{"id":4035,"date":"2008-06-06T08:24:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-06T06:24:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-06-06T08:24:00","modified_gmt":"2008-06-06T06:24:00","slug":"yahoo-fires-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/4035-yahoo-fires-back.html","title":{"rendered":"Yahoo fires back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yahoo added that it has &quot;reached out&quot; to Microsoft in the past few weeks and remains open to a deal if it is in the interests of shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter released late Wednesday, Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock responded to a series of allegations from Icahn in his letter hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Your letter seriously misrepresents and manipulates the facts regarding the recent events pertaining to Microsoft and Yahoo,&quot; Bostock said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You rely on, as &#8216;facts,&#8217; a series of unsubstantiated allegations from a complaint filed in a Delaware court which grossly misstate the very clear record and position established by the Yahoo board.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Bostock defended an employee retention plan &#8212; estimated by Icahn to cost 2.4 billion dollars or more in severance payments in the event of a takeover as a way &quot;to help us preserve and enhance shareholder value by allowing Yahoo to continue to attract and retain the industry&#8217;s best talent, and to allow employees to stay focused on implementing Yahoo&#8217;s business strategy.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Bostock argued that Icahn&#8217;s letter distorts the fact: &quot;Notably, you accuse us of turning down a 40 dollar per share offer and &#8216;sabotaging&#8217; a 33 dollar per share offer. Again, this is patently untrue.
