Telkom CEO Reuben September today announced that ADSL subscribers grew by 61.2% to 412 190 for the year ending March 2008, just short of Telkom’s initial target of 420 000. September further said that Telkom is targeting 592000 ADSL subscribers for the 2009 financial year.<\/p>\n
“Telkom is expanding its ADSL footprint, increasing bandwidth to support applications such as video services and using its Next Generation Network (NGN) to facilitate innovative broadband solutions. Telkom’s ADSL footprint now covers 92% of the network and coverage in traditional township areas has increased to 69%,” continued September. <\/p>\n
He attributed this growth to the commoditisation of ADSL, Do Broadband, the Self Install Option, DSL port automation and wholesale services. <\/p>\n
September further said that ADSL Average Time To Install (ATTI) has improved to 19 days from the 23 days achieved at March 31, 2007.<\/p>\n
The company increased its ADSL footprint to 2 660 DSLAMs, covering 92% of Telkom’s existing customer footprint.<\/p>\n
84 Metro Ethernet nodes have been deployed in major cities using 10Gbit\/s and 1Gbit\/s line systems.<\/p>\n
The national and local transport network increased by 377 nodes, growing the network bandwidth by 1.2 Tbit\/s, which is a growth of 21%.<\/p>\n
Total international bandwidth has increased to 4.5Gbit\/s, which is a growth of 88%. Fibre deployment has increased by 8.7%.<\/p>\n
