Amazon.com Inc.\u2019s payments team is exploring letting customers use cryptocurrencies to pay for their orders — a development that\u2019s roiling digital currency markets.<\/p>\n
An Amazon job posting published online last week seeks a \u201cDigital Currency and Blockchain Product Lead.\u201d After Insider reported the existence of the posting earlier, Bitcoin surged near $40,000. Amazon shares were up less than 1% in New York at 9:39 a.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou will leverage your domain expertise in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currencies and Cryptocurrency to develop the case for the capabilities which should be developed,\u201d the\u00a0posting<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0says. \u201cYou will work closely with teams across Amazon including AWS to develop the\u00a0roadmap<\/span>\u00a0including the customer experience, technical strategy and capabilities as well as the launch strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n (AWS, or Amazon\u00a0Web<\/span>\u00a0Services, is the company\u2019s cloud-computing group, which builds software and other technology products for other companies.)<\/p>\n Amazon is a sprawling company that backs a broad range of experiments, meaning initiatives cited in job postings don\u2019t always become new products. But the company confirmed its interest in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re inspired by the innovation happening in the cryptocurrency space and are exploring what this could look like on Amazon.<\/p>\n We believe the future will be built on new technologies that enable modern, fast and inexpensive payments, and\u00a0hope<\/span>\u00a0to bring that future to Amazon customers as soon as possible,\u201d the company said in a statement after\u00a0reporters spotted<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0the posting.<\/p>\n Amazon doesn\u2019t currently let customers pay with any cryptocurrencies.
