{"id":409586,"date":"2021-08-12T14:52:13","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T12:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=409586"},"modified":"2021-08-12T14:59:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T12:59:41","slug":"state-of-disaster-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/trending\/409586-state-of-disaster-extended.html","title":{"rendered":"State of disaster extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has extended South Africa&#8217;s national state of disaster to 15 September 2021.<\/p>\n<p>This is &#8220;taking into account the need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state to address the impact of the disaster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dlamini-Zuma is required to extend the national state of disaster every month for the Covid-19 lockdown regulations to remain in effect.<\/p>\n<p>The National Coronavirus Command Council <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/trending\/407378-south-africa-goes-to-lockdown-level-3-alcohol-unbanned.html\">moved South Africa to a lower lockdown level<\/a><\/strong> on at the end of last month, relaxing the ban on alcohol and reducing the hours of curfew.<\/p>\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa announced South Africa&#8217;s move to an adjusted Alert Level 3 lockdown in an address to the nation on 25 July.<\/p>\n<p>Under the adjusted level 3 regulations, alcohol may be sold for off-site consumption between 10:00 to 18:00 from Monday to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On-site consumption of alcohol is permitted according to restaurant licence conditions until 20:00 every evening.<\/p>\n<p>Duty-free shops in the international departures area of South African airports will be allowed to sell alcohol without restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Schools were allowed to reopen and the hours of curfew were reduced to between\u00a022:00 and 04:00.<\/p>\n<p>Non-essential facilities like restaurants, bars, and fitness centres will need to close at 21:00 to allow staff to return home before curfew. Nightclubs must remain closed.<\/p>\n<p>Public gatherings are allowed but limited to 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors. This includes social gatherings, political events, and religious gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>Where venues are too small to accommodate these numbers without adhering to social distancing regulations, they may only admit up to 50% of their capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Employers must continue to encourage working from home where possible.<\/p>\n<p>Attendance at funerals and cremations may not exceed 50 people and all safety and health protocols must be observed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_409604\" style=\"width: 767px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Covid-19-active-cases-and-daily-new-cases-in-provinces-11-August-2021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-409604\" class=\"wp-image-409604 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Covid-19-active-cases-and-daily-new-cases-in-provinces-11-August-2021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"757\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Covid-19-active-cases-and-daily-new-cases-in-provinces-11-August-2021.jpg 757w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Covid-19-active-cases-and-daily-new-cases-in-provinces-11-August-2021-600x285.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Covid-19-active-cases-and-daily-new-cases-in-provinces-11-August-2021-640x304.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 757px) 100vw, 757px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-409604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Active Covid-19 cases in South Africa, and new cases reported by province (Media Hack)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The reduction of South Africa&#8217;s lockdown alert level came amid a decrease in new Covid-19 cases being reported in Gauteng, which was epicentre of South Africa&#8217;s third wave outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>While Covid-19 cases have continued to decline, there has been a surge of new cases being reported in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Cases have also surged in KwaZulu-Natal following a week of public violence and looting in the province&#8217;s most populated areas.<\/p>\n<p>The surge in new cases outside Gauteng halted the downward trajectory of South Africa&#8217;s third wave.<\/p>\n<p>CSIR researcher Ridhwaan Suliman said on Saturday that the third wave is far from over due to the great contribution in cases from South Africa&#8217;s coastal provinces.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported that 7,502 new Covid-19 cases were identified in South Africa yesterday, representing an 18.9% positivity rate.<\/p>\n<p>The National Department of Health reported that an additional 573 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing South Africa&#8217;s total fatalities to 75,774.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/3rdWave?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#3rdWave<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> in South Africa&#x1f1ff;&#x1f1e6; is far from over!<\/p>\n<p>Whilst nationally all indicators on hopeful decline, rate of decline has slowed.
